TX PACT and TExES Content Test FAQ's

What is the difference between TX PACT and TExES?

The TX PACT (pre-admission content test) exams contain questions assessing subject-matter knowledge only, as opposed to the TExES certification exams that include questions assessing both subject-matter knowledge and pedagogical knowledge.

TX PACT exams cannot be used for certification.
TExES exams are required for certification.

How do I obtain test approval if I am not in a program?

TX PACT - you do not need testing approval to take the TX PACT. Go to the Texas Educator Certification Examination Program website and find information about TX PACT. Not all our applicants are required to take the TX PACT.

TExES - you must be accepted into a program and meet the criteria for the TExES exam. Region 10 CERTification Program will provide TExES content pedagogy exam resources for candidates who are accepted into the program. This exam is a requirement for certificate issuance and will not be available to candidates without program approval.

How many times can I take the TExES?

Test takers are limited to five (5) attempts on any certification test under Texas Education Code §21.048(a-1). For details about current testing, review the the TEA Educator Testing page.

What is the minimum passing score?

A score of 240 out of a possible 300 is required.

How much does each test cost?

A TX PACT is $106.
A TExES exam is $116.
