The Randy Foederer APE Professional of the Year award was created to honor APE professionals that go above and beyond. Randy has pioneered the way for APE educators, as well as created events for students he felt do not have equal access to PE or competitive sporting events, during his 40+ years in the field. Randy does everything in his power to expand the Special Olympics opportunities by paving the way for school-based programs.

The award is given annually to an APE professional who has served in the field for a minimum of 5 years; participates and promotes extracurricular programming related to lifetime recreation and leisure; has implemented innovative programs; advanced the profession of APE; and demonstrates overall exceptional competencies in the field.
