Web / Online Content Accessibility Summit. Understanding the Puzzle of Online Accessibility

Region 10 ESC is hosting a Web / Online Accessibility Summit  for content creators, web editors, instructional designers, communications staff, textbook & equipment purchasers, and public school administrators -- basically for anyone who creates, edits or posts online content

Why You Should Attend...

If you or your staff are not making online content accessible to screen reader users and those with auditory, cognitive & motor disabilities, then your content could receive a complaint - or worse, a lawsuit - because it is not compliant with several important laws.

And worse yet, your content is not usable by everyone who needs it.

We invite you to attend our summit so we can explain and demonstrate how you can avoid these problems and provide better content to all your audiences.

This Session is for You if...

  • You're purchasing equipment, online books and materials, or creating/revising content

  • You're unsure of the legal standards that are required for online content

  • You don't know the steps to make your content legally compliant

  • Your school needs practical solutions to assist students that have disabilities and struggle with online content

What You'll Gain from Attending

This summit will provide an introduction to web accessibility, covering the important concepts and laws, plus the impact of non-compliance.

We'll discuss challenges schools face when it comes to providing content and testing for those with disabilities, and also practical solutions that can be implemented.

Bring your laptop for two hands-on training segments that let you immediately apply what you learn to make your Google Docs & Google Slides compliant. And we'll show you tools and checkers that can help you easily verify and correct accessibility problems in your online content.

Special Guest - Jack Hickman

Learn from a firsthand account from Jack Hickman what it’s like when a person who is blind encounters documents, websites, and other information in an inaccessible format. Jack, an assistive technology product specialist for the blind, will share his personal experiences with attendees on this subject as well as provide helpful suggestions for modifications for people who rely on screen readers and enlargement software systems.
