Community Health Worker / Community Health Worker Instructor

What is a CHW?

A Community Health Worker (CHW) is a frontline public health worker who is a trusted member of an/or has an unusually close understanding of the community served.  This trusting relationship enable the CHW to serve as a liaison/link/intermediary between health/social services and the community to facilitate access to services and improve the quality and cultural competence of service delivery.  A CHW also builds individual and community capacity by increasing health knowledge and self-sufficiency through a range of activities such as outreach, education, informal counseling, social support and advocacy.

Region 10 has established a distinctive collaboration with the Texas Education Agency and the Texas Department of State Health Services.  Through this partnership. we provide specialized training to high school teachers as Community Health Worker Instructors (CHWs) and support them in certifying their students as Community Health Workers (CHWs).  Join us we train a new generation of CHWs, shaping the future of our local communities by addressing and preventing health inequalities.

Upon successful completion of this training, participants will become certified Community Health Worker Instructors (CHWI) through the Texas Department of State and Health Services.  These certified instructors will be able to certify their students as Community health Workers (CHW) by adhering to the process set forth by Region 10.

Course Details

This course consists of:

  • Virtual kick-off session via Zoom

  • 160 hour of asynchronous coursework focused on the eight competencies of a community health worker. 

All work will be assigned and completed in Google Classroom.

  • Virtual wrap-up session via Zoom

     

Cost 

  • CHWI - $500 Per Teacher

  • CHW - $25 Per Student Name Submitted
