Introduction

Local Education Agencies (LEAs) have a responsibility to provide equitable services to private school children with the primary goal of enabling all children to master challenging standards in core academic subjects. This has been the centerpiece of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) since its initial passage in 1965.

Within the scope of responsibilities, the LEA must abide by specific Title I, Part A rules and regulations regarding notifications, funding, student eligibility, etc. In addition, LEAs must follow a process to plan, design, implement and evaluate their program and services.

Before elaborating on LEA responsibilities, it is important to know about the law and exactly what it says.
