Child Find is a federal mandate under IDEA that assists LEAs identify, locate, and evaluate all children with disabilities residing within their jurisdictions who need special education and/or related services. 34 CFR §300.111- Child Find

Students identified through Child Find must have a Full and Individual Initial Evaluation (FIIE) completed and presented before a child’s ARD committee to determine eligibility and the need for specially designed instruction.

Behavior supports and services begin with strong, universal systems of support. Strong behavior supports and systems can better assist students, staff, and help to prevent disproportion in student discipline.

The Region 10 Dyslexia Program provides regional and state assistance to LEAs, universities, parents, service centers, and other entities in the area of dyslexia.

Special education programs vary, including names of programs, from LEA to LEA. Per federal regulation, every LEA must ensure that a continuum of alternative placements is available to meet the needs of students with disabilities for special education and related services (34 CFR §300.114(a)). Federal regulations require the continuum to include instruction in regular classes, special classes, special schools, home instruction, and instruction in hospitals and institutions.

In accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) of 2004, LEAs are to provide students receiving special education and/or related services the opportunity to participate in school through the least restrictive environment (LRE).

A manifestation determination must be made within 10 school days of any decision to make a disciplinary change of placement of the child with a disability due to a violation of a code of student conduct.
