The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) was signed by President Obama on December 10, 2015. This bipartisan measure reauthorizes the 50-year-old Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), the nation’s national education law and longstanding commitment to equal opportunity for all students. ESSA includes provisions that will help to ensure success for all students. It became effective on July 1, 2017.

TEA Divisions
- Federal Fiscal Compliance and Reporting Division: Oversees activities of federal grant programs to ensure they are compliant with fiscal requirements and ensures that the agency is compliant with federal reporting requirements.
- Federal Fiscal Monitoring Division: Monitors the expenditures of federal grant subrecipients to ensure federal funds are used for authorized purposes in compliance with federal statutes, regulations, and the terms and conditions of federal awards.
- Federal Program Compliance Division: Provides state administration and implementation of ESSA programs (Title I, Parts A and D); Migrant; Title II, Part A; Title IV, Part A; Titles V, VI, and VII; and ESSA PNP services).
- Grants Administration Division Provides centralized administration of all formula and discretionary state-appropriated funds and federal grant funds awarded to TEA; administers all grant funds awarded to subrecipients.
