Program Overview


Region 10 Teacher Preparation and Certification is a state-accredited program which provides an opportunity for highly qualified individuals with bachelor’s degrees to gain teacher certification.
A combination of rigorous coursework and field-based experience prepares participants to be successful, effective teachers.  Since two routes for completing a teaching practicum are available, descriptions for both routes are provided below.

 


 

Applicants complete an online application and submit the required documents.
A response is received via email or mail.


 

Candidates, individuals accepted into the program, complete the following requirements:

Orientation - Consultants explain the program and course requirements for certification areas.

Field-Based Experience - 30 hours of student contact experience through classroom observations and interaction. (Up to 15 hours of credit may be allowed for prior teaching experience.)

Coursework- Five core courses, online and face-to-face, provide foundational information, methodology, and effective practices.

 Additional Tests -TExES Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities (PPR) EC-12 test and/or other state-required certification tests. TPC provides reviews and practice tests for required tests.


 

Participants complete a teaching assignment in a school district, charter, or accredited private school through one of these options. The internship option is open to all accepted program candidates. An additional screening process, after initial program acceptance, is required for placement in a clinical teaching experience.

 

Internship - Interns complete two consecutive semesters in a paid teaching position.

Clinical Teaching Experience (CTE) - Selected candidates serve 15 weeks in a classroom in a nonpaid position working with a cooperating teacher/mentor.

 

***You will complete an Internship OR the Clinical Teaching Experience.

 

Upon successful completion of all program requirements and the teaching assignment, participants are recommended for a Texas Standard Teaching Certificate.
